Dr. Brant VanOrman is a licensed psychologist and Coordinator of the Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. He has been with Pine Rest since 1999 and has served in a variety of training and leadership roles, including as Training Director for the APA-accredited Psychology Doctoral Internship since 2007.
Dr. VanOrman is the Director of Assessment Services for Pine Rest’s Outpatient and Recovery Services and Clinic Manager of the Psychological Consultation Center. He completed his master’s and doctoral training in psychology at Wheaton College (Illinois). In addition to coordinating fellowship training, Dr. VanOrman provides supervision and teaching for psychology trainees, psychiatry residents, and other learners across the organization.
Dr. VanOrman’s clinical and scholarly interests center on psychological assessment across the lifespan. His areas of expertise include ADHD and learning disorders, autism spectrum disorders, personality and diagnostic assessment, presurgical evaluations, and forensic psychological assessment. He has presented on psychological assessment topics in professional and community settings and serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. Dr. VanOrman is also involved in interdisciplinary education and research initiatives focused on clinical training and professional competency development.

Dr. Burkhart is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist and has served as Chair of the Psychology Department since 2004. He brings a distinguished academic and clinical training background to his work, having earned his Master of Applied Science (MASc) from the University of Waterloo and his PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Windsor. His doctoral training included neuropsychology internships at two preeminent institutions — the Montreal Neurological Institute and Henry Ford Hospital — and he gained additional formative clinical experience at the University Hospital affiliated with the University of Western Ontario.
Dr. Burkhart holds an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Michigan State University Medical College with appointment across the Departments of Neurology & Ophthalmology, and Psychiatry, reflecting the breadth of his interdisciplinary contributions. He serves on the faculty of both the Psychiatry Residency Program and the Neuropsychology Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program, where he is deeply committed to the training and professional development of the next generation of clinical neuropsychologists. He is also an active contributor to the academic and institutional life of the medical community, serving on several medical staff and advisory committees including Grand Rounds and the APA Continuing Education Committee.
Dr. Burkhart’s clinical and research interests center on the identification and modification of factors that mitigate cognitive decline and dementia, with a particular focus on the neuropsychological impact of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis, as well as a broad range of other neurocognitive disorders affecting higher cognitive functions. His work in this area reflects both a rigorous scientific orientation and a genuine investment in improving the quality of life and cognitive resilience of the patients he serves.

Dr. Taylor McMillen is an adult neuropsychologist at the Pine Rest Psychological Consultation Center. Dr. McMillen earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. She went on to complete a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from Carlow University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the St. Cloud VA in St. Cloud, Minnesota in Health Psychology, with a focus in neuropsychology. She completed her two-year postdoctoral fellowship specializing in adult clinical neuropsychology at Pine Rest.
Dr. McMillen’s clinical experience includes neuropsychological assessment of adults and older adults. She works with individuals with a wide range of neurocognitive disorders, including but not limited to differential diagnosis of dementia, brain injury, and a host of other medical/neurological conditions. She also conducts pre-surgical bariatric surgery assessments and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder evaluations. Dr. McMillen also engages in forensic work conducting pre-employment evaluations, guardianship evaluations, and fitness for duty evaluations.
Dr. McMillen has supervised pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. She utilized a collaborative, semi-structured approach designed to help trainees increase independence and competence throughout the fellowship. Her goal is to meet the trainee where they are at and develop shared goals to address during training.

Dr. Kaitlin Tuinstra is a pediatric neuropsychologist with specialized expertise in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions. Her clinical interests include genetic and metabolic disorders, prenatal alcohol exposure, prematurity, cerebrovascular conditions, autism spectrum disorder, and attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder. She also has extensive experience evaluating seizure disorders and learning disabilities, as well as conducting comprehensive educational assessments.
Dr. Tuinstra provides both inpatient and outpatient neuropsychological evaluations and completes forensic evaluations, including guardianship and school‑risk determinations. Her clinical work emphasizes evidence‑based assessment practices and close interdisciplinary collaboration to support accurate diagnosis and meaningful treatment planning across medical, educational, and community settings.
As a fellowship faculty member, Dr. Tuinstra is deeply committed to training and mentorship. She has supervised practicum students, pre‑doctoral interns, and post‑doctoral fellows, and she takes a collaborative approach to supervision that emphasizes skill development, clinical reasoning, and the gradual building of professional autonomy. She is dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment that prepares trainees for independent, ethical, and impactful clinical practice.

Dr. Kelsey Woolner is a pediatric neuropsychologist at the Pine Rest Treetops Pediatric Clinic. She completed her bachelor’s degree in human development at California State University, Long Beach. She went on to complete her master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at Rosemead School of Psychology in La Mirada, California. Dr. Woolner moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2020 to complete her pre-doctoral internship at Pine Rest and then stayed to complete her two-year post-doctoral fellowship specializing in pediatric neuropsychology.
Dr. Woolner’s clinical experience includes neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents with genetic conditions, prenatal alcohol exposure, seizure disorders, cerebrovascular conditions, premature birth, and other neurodevelopmental concerns including autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. She is actively involved in supervision for several training programs at Pine Rest including the neuropsychology fellowship, psychology residency, child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship, and other grant funded training initiatives.
Dr. Woolner is passionate about the intersections of neuropsychological assessment, neurodevelopment, and behavioral health disorders in children and adolescents. When she is not performing neuropsychological evaluations, Dr. Woolner is supporting clinical programming as the clinical director of pediatrics. She is also involved in a number of research projects at Pine Rest, including ECT, safety planning and suicide in adolescents, and religion/spirituality and adolescent mental health.
