Pearls for Partners

(Closed) Silent Struggles, Saving Lives: Unmasking Eating Disorders in Our Kids

Join Pine Rest for a powerful, heartfelt Part 2 of our Pearls for Partners series, designed for community partners. This presentation unveils the hidden epidemic of eating disorders in our youth, with the staggering reality that approximately 10,200 youth in the US will die this year from eating disorders, often due to medical complications or suicide. Through gripping statistics and real stories, learn to spot signs, explore evidence-based treatments, and gain practical tools to start life-changing conversations. Be the voice that saves a child—because every question counts.

Objectives

  1. Increase knowledge of eating disorders signs and symptoms. By the end of the presentation, 80% of attendees will correctly identify at least three key signs of eating disorders in youth (e.g., behavioral, physical, emotional) on a post-presentation quiz/survey.
  2. Enhance confidence in initiating conversations about eating disorders. By the end of the presentation, 80% of attendees will report increased confidence (rating 4 or higher on a 5-point scale) in starting a supportive conversation about eating disorders with a student or child, as measured by a post-presentation survey.
  3. Promote awareness of evidence-based treatment options. By the end of the presentation, 80% of attendees will accurately identify at least two evidence-based treatment approaches for eating disorders (e.g., CBT, FBT) and their importance for youth recovery, as measured by a post-presentation survey.
