- Why I chose Pine Rest
- I wanted a place that would allow me to care for complex psychiatric patients, give opportunities to train and gain experience in neuromodulation treatments (ECT, TMS, DBS, etc.), all while being respected in a non-threatening, family-friendly environment. This was a tall order, but I found it here at Pine Rest. Here at Pine Rest I have been able to get the best training I can imagine, and still pursue my other interests.
- Professional or Clinical Interests:
- I have particular interests in the intersection of psychiatry and the law, and will be part of Pine Rest’s newest fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry next year. I also have interests in inpatient psychiatric treatment, neuromodulation, teaching, and consultation to medical colleagues.
- Other Interests:
- Biking, playing guitar, volunteering at church, and most importantly, being with my family.

- Why Pine Rest
- This is a great place to work. Not only is the main campus a beautiful location, but the staff here is dedicated to mental health. All areas of psychiatry are available to explore, and it is easy to find a fellowship-trained psychiatric specialist to consult on complex issues. Pine Rest is a resident and fellow friendly locale with an education team that is eager to teach. Furthermore, Grand Rapids is a magnificent city in which to raise a family and has the amenities of a large city without feeling like a large city.
- Hobbies
- I am an avid player of European-style board games and runner.
