Thank you for your interest in the Pine Rest Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program! Applicants are expected to have completed four years of an accredited psychiatry residency program prior to the start date of the fellowship program.

Program applicants are required to show evidence of academic excellence, clinical interest in the field of addiction psychiatry, a high level of professionalism, high ethical standards, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, potential for successful completion of the fellowship program, and potential for the practice of medicine within the U.S. healthcare system.

The majority of Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Programs will be utilizing the electronic residency application service (ERAS) and national residency matching service (NRMP Match) to recruit for the fellowship class starting July 1st, 2023

Applicants may submit their application to the ERAS service starting July 1st, 2022

Applicants may apply to the NRMP Match on August 24th, ranking lists for programs are due November 16th, and match day will be Nov 30th

The Match schedule for positions beginning in the 2023 Academic Year is below:

  • July 6, 2022 – Applicants may begin submitting applications in ERAS
  • August 24, 2022 – Match Opens
  • September 28, 2022 – Ranking Begins
  • November 30, 2022 – Match Day

In your ERAS application, please include:

  • Three original letters of recommendation; one of the letters must be from your current training director, the remaining two should be from current faculty that know your work. All letters of recommendation must address your clinical knowledge and skills as listed above.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • USMLE (including Step III) or COMLEX (Including level 3) scores, which must be passed prior to starting the fellowship

Decisions regarding candidate selection for the program are made by the Addiction Fellowship Selection and Evaluation Committee, based on the applicant’s academic record; clinical, research, and other work experience; letters of recommendation; interviews with departmental faculty and other staff; and demonstration of personal characteristics that may be pertinent to training in and the practice of Addiction Psychiatry.

Applicants who meet program requirements will be considered for interview with departmental faculty based on the number of interview slots available and their academic competitiveness with other candidates.

Following interviews, the Selection and Evaluation Committee will review candidates’ application materials and comments of faculty and staff who have interacted with the candidates to assess their potential for the program. We typically accept two applicants per year.

Beginning July 1, 2021, Pine Rest Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship, along with other Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Programs, will begin using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for program application.
