Dr. Sanders joined Pine Rest in 2008 and has practiced general adult psychiatry in many settings including outpatient, inpatient, particle hospitalization, and psychiatric medical unit. He has provided expert forensic psychiatry evaluations on disability requests, fitness for duty, personal injury, medical negligence, child custody and visitation, guardianship and testamentary capacity. He also provides criminal services including competency to stand trial, legal sanity, child abuse, sentencing and witness competency.
Since joining Pine Rest in 2008, Dr. Sanders has distinguished himself as a clinician and effective leader. He has served as Pine Rest’s Chief Medical Officer in January 2021 as well as the Designated Institutional Officer for all the Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Sanders was the developer and first director of Pine Rest’s Psychiatry Residency and Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship programs. He was the MSU College of Human Medicine Clerkship Director for five years and served as the Medical Director of Pine Rest’s Hospital and Residential Services.
His qualifications include Board Certification in Adult Psychiatry by the American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also Forensic Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
