Dr. Jack Mahdasian, MD, MA is currently Senior Psychiatrist, Older Adult Unit, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In the past, he has served on the Peer Review Committee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and as President of Medical Staff on the Pine Rest Board. At present, he is on the Credentials Committee. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Dr. Mahdasian received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside, a Master of Arts degree in Psychology and Counseling from the Trinity Divinity School, and his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed an internship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire before completing his adult psychiatry residency training at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Having a particular interest in Older Adults and the severely and persistently medically ill, Dr. Mahdasian pursues research that could possibly help this fragile and vulnerable group. He was also a co-investigator on a study that investigated cocaine withdrawal in Veterans Administration patients, and his publication related to this study (Treatment of Crack-Cocaine-Induced Compulsive Behavior with Trazadone) appeared in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment in 1995. He also served as a coinvestigator on a pilot study of ECT for the treatment of behavioral disturbances in advanced dementia, which was published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry in 2015.
