This honor was given in recognition of mental health support via online counseling and therapy that Pine Rest has provided farmers and agricultural workers across Michigan through a partnership with MSU Extension. This partnership has resulted in a well developed referral process, identification of therapists with a connection to agriculture, and improved access to comprehensive mental health services for farmers and agricultural workers.
The program is funded through a grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and continues to grow as more and more farm workers and their families take advantage of the support. In 2020, the teletherapy service was extended to Michigan’s commercial fishers as well.
We value our relationship with MSU Extension and the difference we’ve been able to make by working together, and we look forward to a continued partnership that will help us keep improving the lives of Michigan’s valued farm and fishery workers.
