Pine Rest Kalamazoo Clinic Staff Featured On WWMT State Of Mind

Jon Weeldreyer, MA, CAADC, CCS-M, from the Pine Rest Kalamazoo Clinic was interviewed on WWMT’s State of Mind on Monday, March 23. The topic was “Why aren’t people listening to experts about COVID-19?

“We want to have great experiences and we want to have fun and somebody is blocking our goals and we’re not seeing any real consequences in the world,” Jon Weeldreyer said. “We see the numbers on the TV about so many infections and so many deaths, but it seems so very detached from us.”

Ron DeVries, PhD, from the Pine Rest Kalamazoo Clinic was interviewed on WWMT’s State of Mind on Thursday, March 26 for a follow-up interview, “Psychologist explains why some ignore COVID-19 precautions.”

Newschannel 3: “How do you talk to someone who is refusing to alter their lives or social distance?”

DeVries: “You really listen to them. You find out what’s going on with them. Focus on something that they’re worried about. Usually behind the scenes the reason they’re not listening to this is maybe they’re worried about the economy or maybe they’re worried about the politics of this and so try to focus in on what it is about that.”
