At the Pine Rest Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health, our volunteers help create a reassuring first impression for children, teens and families seeking care. A warm smile, a kind greeting or simply helping someone find their way can make a meaningful difference during a time that may feel uncertain or overwhelming.
Opened in March 2026, the Pediatric Center is a place of healing, hope and belonging. We are excited to recruit our first class of volunteers and invite compassionate individuals to join us in creating an exceptional experience for every visitor who walks through our doors.

What You’ll Do
As a Family Welcome Ambassador, you’ll serve at the Pediatric Center’s main entrance and help create a positive, supportive environment for patients, families and guests.
- Greet visitors with warmth and professionalism
- Provide directions and wayfinding assistance throughout the Center
- Help families feel welcomed, seen and supported
- Create a friendly and comforting first impression
- Serve as an important extension of our care team

Whether you’re retired, working part time, a college student or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back, we encourage you to apply.
What are the requirements?
No healthcare experience is necessary. We’ll provide the training and support you need to succeed.
To help maintain a safe and healthy environment for our patients, families and volunteers, applicants will complete:
- Volunteer interview
- Criminal background check
- Health screening
- Verification of required immunizations, including tuberculosis testing and annual flu vaccination
- Orientation and on-the-job training
- Annual education and training requirements
Is training provided?
Yes. All volunteers receive orientation and position-specific training before beginning service. Ongoing training opportunities and educational resources related to behavioral health will also be available.
What is the time commitment?
The Pediatric Center is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.
We will have three 4-hour volunteer shifts each day:
- 8am-noon
- noon-4pm
- 4pm-8pm
We would like volunteers to commit to one shift per week for a year.
What if I'm ill or need time away?
We understand that circumstances arise and schedules sometimes change. We simply ask volunteers to communicate as early as possible if they need time away from their role. Dependability is important because our patients, visitors and team members count on volunteers to be there when expected.
Is the Pediatric Center accessible?
Yes. The Center is designed to be easily accessible for individuals with mobility challenges. Features include accessible parking, heated sidewalks at the entrance and barrier-free access throughout the facility.
