Neurodevelopmental Disorders Inpatient Care
A Safe, Specialized Space for Kids Who Need Extra Support
The Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD) Inpatient Program at Pine Rest is a highly specialized psychiatric treatment program for children and adolescents age young childhood up to approximately 17 years old, who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and/or intellectual disability. Our team provides compassionate, evidence-based care to help reduce challenging behaviors such as aggression, property destruction and self-injury, while also addressing co-occurring conditions like anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or mood disorders.
The primary focus is on improving skills that help each child successfully reintegrate into home, school and community settings. This includes intensive analysis of behaviors, developing individualized behavior plans tailored to each child’s unique needs and caregiver/parent training that empowers families with strategies and confidence to manage behaviors effectively. By partnering with parents and guardians throughout the process, we ensure progress continues long after discharge.
The 10-bed Pine Cone inpatient unit offers a safe, structured environment where children receive intensive, individualized care in a calming, supportive setting. Every detail—from sensory-friendly spaces to specialized therapeutic interventions—is designed to promote emotional regulation, reduce high-risk behaviors and foster growth in communication and independence. Families can trust that their child is receiving exceptional care in a space created just for them.
