Safe Healing Spaces for Kids of All Ages
Programming in the Linden, Willow and Pine Sapling psychiatric inpatient units focuses on crisis stabilization in a safe and therapeutic environment. Our collaborative multidisciplinary team provides group-based programming, oversight by board-certified psychiatrists, and partnership with families to develop a treatment plan that best suits each child’s needs. The average length of inpatient stay is six to eight days.
Our units are specifically designed and staffed for age of the children being treated:
Pine Sapling Unit—Ages approximately 12 Years Old and Under (12 beds)
Linden Unit—Ages approximately 13 to 17 Years Old (22 beds)
Willow Unit—Ages approximately 13 to 17 Years Old (22 beds)

We provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with a variety of emotional and behavioral problems including:
- Anxiety disorders (OCD, general anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, trauma, etc.)
- Mood disorders (major depression, bipolar disorder, persistent depressive disorder, etc.)
- Psychotic disorders
- Severe disruptive behavior
- Suicide attempts

Who is part of my child’s treatment team?
This program features a skilled, multidisciplinary clinical team delivering intensive behavioral approaches tailored to each child’s needs. The team includes the following professionals: fellowship trained child and adolescent psychiatrists, board-certified behavior analysts, registered nurses, a pediatrician, a social worker, an occupational therapist, a speech and language pathologist, psychiatric technicians, registered behavior technicians, and a nurse manager.
Do you take insurance?
Pine Rest participates with almost all major insurance plans. Co-pays and deductibles vary. Contact your insurance provider for what your plan will cover. Patients with Medicaid or no insurance must contact their local Community Mental Health for assessment and referral. Our intake clinicians can assist you in the process.
Is lodging available for patients and their families?
Families from long distances may arrange lodging at one of the area hotels or Ronald McDonald House West Michigan. Your intake clinician will connect you to local lodging information.
