Congratulations to nurse Valerie Muilenburg, for her honors in being recently selected for the DAISY Award!
Valerie is an RN with our Retreat Residential Unit. She has been with Pine Rest nearly 37 years, beginning in 1985 on the long-term adolescent care units. Over the years she has dedicated herself to mental health nursing care in various areas throughout the organization, both inpatient and outpatient units.
Valerie is known for being been a strong advocate for the safety of patients and peers. She is thoughtful, caring, supportive and a wonderful example of patient care. During her time at Pine Rest, Val has trained many newly hired nurses and always helps them feel important and welcomed to the team. She is reassuring and supportive, not only to patients who are struggling, but also to coworkers. She takes extra time to give small tokens of appreciation to others, showing them that she cares.
Fun fact: Val met her husband here at Pine Rest! He and their son attended our DAISY Award ceremony celebrating Val.
The DAISY award is presented in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and consists of a pin, sculpture and recognition on both DAISY’s International website and here at Pine Rest.
