Research Participants Needed for Low-Amplitude Seizure Pulse Therapy (LAP-ST) ECT Study

October 1, 2025

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of the study is to compare low amplitude-pulse (LAP) ECT to standard ECT. LAP-ECT has been shown in prior studies to have less memory side effects in depression. This study will also assess its effect on suicidal thoughts. We hope to learn more about the benefits of LAP ECT and if it can be a safer
alternative to standard ECT.

  • Adults referred clinically by their psychiatrist for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
  • Other criteria may apply.

  • Receive ECT treatments at Pine Rest, 300 68th St SE, Grand Rapids.
