Congratulations to Dorothy Schans, RN, newest winner of the National DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in Patient Safety, presented in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

Dorothy is a Contact Center nurse who also worked for many years on our Child & Adolescent Unit. Her recent actions helped calm a patient down and make the individual feel comfortable and heard.

Says co-worker Maggie Sweeney:

“Thank you, Dorothy, you saved the day with your kindness and sense of humor!”

The DAISY award consists of a pin, sculpture and recognition on both DAISY’s International website and here at Pine Rest. Dorothy’s family (husband, daughter in-law and granddaughters) were able to attend for the award presentation along with team members. Harmony Gould (Vice President of Hospital & Residential Services) and Beth Wiersma (Clinical Services Manager of the Contact Center) presented the award
