We are excited to announce a major milestone for our future Pine Rest Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health!
On July 24, Governor Whitmer signed the Michigan FY2025 budget into law, including a significant $12.5 million grant earmarked for our Pediatric Psychiatric Urgent Care Center, which will be part of the pediatric hospital. This funding is a crucial investment in behavioral health care for children and adolescents across Michigan and highlights the strong support from state legislators who understand the urgent need for increased access to pediatric mental health care.
We are incredibly grateful for this level of support which is so vital as we move forward toward our anticipated hospital opening in 2026.
“This is transformative money,” Pine Rest Chief Operating Officer Bob Nykamp remarked in a recent Crain’s Grand Rapids article about the funding. “What it tells you is that everybody realizes how important access to behavioral health care is, especially for the children and adolescent population right now.”
