Crain’s Grand Rapids Business has named Pine President & CEO Dr. Mark Eastburg 2023’s Newsmaker of the Year in its Health Care category, in recognition of the Pine Rest Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health, scheduled to open in 2026.
The West-Michigan business news publication, along with its Detroit-based central hub, publishes the Newsmakers list annually, identifying some of the biggest headlines of the last 12 months across lower Michigan, along with the people behind them.
The Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health was first announced in July of 2022, when Dr. Eastburg outlined plans to open be the state’s first-ever behavioral health facility for children and adolescents. The Pediatric Center, which is being built on Pine Rest’s 220-acre campus in southeast Grand Rapids, will include a psychiatric urgent care center, 66-bed inpatient hospital, eating disorders treatment facility, intensive psychiatric residential treatment facility for autistic spectrum disorder and developmentally disabled children, and much more.

Dr. Eastburg joined Pine Rest in 1991. Since being named CEO in 2006, he has dedicated his career to helping expand behavioral healthcare and psychiatric access throughout Michigan.
