Dr. Greg Mallis from the Pine Rest Southwest Clinic in Grandville participated in a recent panel discussion by Shelley Irwin for WGVU TV’s Family Health Matters on Sunday, February 21.
The topic, ‘Breaking Loneliness,’ addressed the challenges teens may experience while seeking treatment due to stigma surrounding mental health.
“Loneliness is a huge issue that many of us are experiencing right now because of the isolation due to COVID,” says Dr. Mallis.
Among the tips shared by Dr. Mallis:
- Talk to the individual who is struggling to try and find out what is driving their loneliness.
- Once a source of loneliness has been pinpointed, strategize on what can be done to address it.
- Identify supports that can help mitigate loneliness – family, friends, church groups, etc.
