Neurodevelopmental DIsorders Pediatric Inpatient Treatment

Specialized psychiatric inpatient treatment for ages 8 - 17

The Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD) Inpatient Program at Pine Rest is a specialized psychiatric treatment program for children and adolescents, ages 8 to 17, who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and/or intellectual disability. Children receive specialty treatment to reduce problematic behaviors including aggression, property destruction and self-injury as well as address co-occurring psychiatric disorders such as anxiety or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The primary focus is on improving skills that help the patient successfully reintegrate into community settings. This involves intensive analysis of behaviors, developing behavior plans that fit each child’s unique needs, and caregiver/parent training that builds confidence and teaches skills to help parents manage problematic behaviors.

This 4-bed inpatient unit provides a safe, structured environment where children receive intensive, individualized care to help reduce behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, and property destruction, while also addressing co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, ADHD, and mood disorders.
