(Closed) Understanding Implicit Bias for Health and Human Services Professionals

Presentation:

To best serve others, we must have an awareness of and strategies to address the implicit biases we personally hold. This one-hour engagement will advance a definition of implicit bias, allow for an explanation as to the purpose and function of implicit biases in our daily living, recognition of the potential negative impact on those we serve, and advance opportunities to combat our biases.

Objectives:

As a result of this training, participants will:

    1. Advance their understanding of how implicit biases are formed as well as how they are used in our decision making.
    2. Recognize how implicit biases may negatively impact those we serve
    3. Identify at least two (2) activities that may be used to advance awareness and challenge personal implicit biases.
