(Reg Closed) Nursing’s Role in Developing Safety Plans for Suicidal Patients

Presentation

This nursing grand rounds will provide education on the important role nurses can have in safety planning with patients at-risk of suicide, including directly partnering with patients to complete their safety plan and working within a treatment team to improve the quality of patients’ safety plans. This presentation will explain the differences between contracting for safety and safety planning and review the six key components of the evidence-based Stanley-Brown Safety Plan. Dr. Edwards will briefly review research supporting collaborative safety planning for suicide prevention, including factors that impact the effectiveness of safety plans in preventing suicide. An emphasis will be placed on clinical skills nurses can use to help patients develop or improve their safety plans.
