This virtual course, offered through our Traverse City Clinic, is based on the renowned parent training program “Parenting the Love and Logic Way,” co-developed by experts Charles Fay, Ph.D., Jim Fay, and Foster W. Cline, M.D.
Love and Logic® is dedicated to making parenting and teaching fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic. It provides practical tools and techniques that help adults achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children.
The program comprises of six sessions for mastering skills essential to effective parenting. Within these sessions, participants will engage with a variety of instructional media, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience:
- Video Presentations: Jim Fay and Charles Fay, Ph.D., deliver dynamic discussions, modeling, and practical examples for each skill.
- Readings: Supplemental readings enhance comprehension and application of the concepts presented in the program.
- Structured Group Exercises and Discussions: Participants will engage actively in group exercises, fostering interaction and providing a platform for meaningful discussions.
Course Objectives
- Creating home environments that stimulate responsibility, resiliency, and academic achievement.
- Preventing misbehavior.
- Avoiding power struggles while setting limits.
- Teaching character and responsibility through modeling and applying logical consequences instead of punishment.
- Teaching children healthy problem-solving skills.
- Staying calm in stressful parenting situations.
- Helping children prepare to resist drugs, alcohol, violence, and other dangerous behaviors.

Week 1: Putting an End to Arguing Back-Talk and Begging (participants must attend from Week 1)
Week 2: Teaching Responsibility without Losing Their Love
Week 3: Setting Limits Without Waging War
Week 4: Avoiding Power-Struggles
Week 5: Guiding Kids to Own and Solve Their Problems
Week 6: Teaching Kids to Complete Chores Without Reminders and Pay.
