This virtual course, offered through our Traverse City Clinic, follows the Parenting the Love and Logic Way® training program co-developed by experts Charles Fay, Ph.D., Jim Fay, and Foster W. Cline, M.D.
Meeting Format:
Six weekly online classes.
Participants must attend from the first class.
Love and Logic® provides practical tools and techniques that help adults achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children. We welcome all parents, guardians, general and special education teachers, counselors, psychologists, foster parents, adoptive parents, and anyone else working with youth.
Within the sessions, participants will engage with a variety of instructional media, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience:
- Video Presentations: Charles Fay, Ph.D. delivers dynamic discussions, modeling, and practical examples for each skill.
- Readings: Supplemental readings enhance comprehension and application of the concepts presented in the program.
- Structured Group Exercises and Discussions: Participants will engage actively in group exercises, fostering interaction and providing a platform for meaningful discussions.
Course Objectives
Creating home environments that stimulate responsibility, resiliency, and academic achievement.
Preventing misbehavior.
Avoiding power struggles while setting limits.
Teaching character and responsibility through modeling and applying logical consequences instead of punishment.
Teaching children healthy problem-solving skills.
Staying calm in stressful parenting situations.
Helping children prepare to resist drugs, alcohol, violence, and other dangerous behaviors.

Week 2: Dealing with Defiance and Other Difficult Behavior

Week 4: Setting Limits While Minimizing Power Struggles

Week 6: Empowering Them Toward Success in Life
