The Pine Rest Telehealth Clinic is offering this group – Exploring Recovery for Adolescents – for teens 13-17 years, who are either actively using substances or have recently used and still at risk of relapsing, to have a safe space to talk about their feelings and get support from those that understand the cravings and desire to use drugs and/or alcohol.
Focus will be on the group encouraging each other to remain sober and clean along with learning strategies for recovery techniques. Some psychoeducation will occur as well, including substance use topics, such as harm reduction, relapse prevention, identifying triggers, and feelings associated with use.
This group will also dive into reducing common dangerous substance use behaviors, such as promiscuity, running away from home, relationship concerns, stealing (home and retail), other illegal behaviors, etc. Co-occurring mental health concerns definitely are included as well.
The benefit of learning in a group format is that you not only have access to a trained mental health therapist, but also to peers that have been through similar experiences to you and can offer insight and support that is hard to get any other way.
The group meets virtually once a week. New group members can join at any time.
Group therapy is a covered service for most insurance providers. Financial assistance may be available for those who qualify.
Registration: If interested, current Pine Rest patients should talk to their case manager or therapist to get referred to this group.
However, if you are new to Pine Rest, a one-time evaluation to assess the appropriateness of group therapy will be arranged to discuss a treatment plan. Please call us at 866.852.4001.
