Caring for Patients with Catatonia

This nursing grand rounds will provide education and focus on the recognition, assessment, and management of catatonia, an often-misunderstood phenomenon in psychiatric nursing. We will explore the clinical presentation and evidence based treatment approaches for catatonia and how nurses can recognize early warning signs and collaborate effectively with the treatment team to provide quality care.

    Bill Sanders, DO, MS, Vice President & Chief Medical Officer

    Since joining Pine Rest in 2008, Dr. Sanders has distinguished himself as a clinician and effective leader. He has served as Pine Rest’s Chief Medical Officer since January 2021. Dr. Sanders was the developer and first director of Pine Rest’s Psychiatry Residency and Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship programs. He was the MSU College of Human Medicine Clerkship Director for five years and served as the Medical Director of Pine Rest’s Hospital and Residential Services. His qualifications include Board Certification in Adult Psychiatry by the American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also Forensic Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
