Pine Rest continues the celebration of its anniversaries with a unique staff exhibit called “Healing Hands.” More than 200 photos of varying sizes illustrate the many ways that Pine Rest staff hands are used in healing moments. Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services celebrates its 100th anniversary and the Pine Rest Foundation its 50th.
The exhibit opens October 6, 2010 in the Bruce and Mary Leep Art Gallery at the Postma Center located on the main campus of Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services at 300 68th Street, Grand Rapids, MI.
Staff could submit their own photos or have their photo taken by a Pine Rest staff person Julia Smilde, a 5-year employee. Smilde is a talented artist and photographer who captured the essence of Pine Rest staff at work whether that be administering drugs, giving directions, answering the phone, doing grounds work, comforting a patient or praying. The exhibit mainly uses black and white photos with 27 large format color photographs as well.
Staff members were asked to put in writing their healing moments with a patient or a statement about how their work contributes to the care of patients. So that with each photo is a statement about the healing hands at Pine Rest and how they aided in the care of patients, clients and residents.
“Healing Hands” will run from October 6 through January 4, 2011. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, additional times available by appointment. There is no admission fee. For more information, please call 616/222-4530.
