Pine Rest is honored to announce that Jared Skillings, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., F.A.C.H.P., has been appointed as president of the Academy of Clinical Health Psychologists. This academy is a subdivision of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), which credentials psychologists as experts in their field. About 3 percent of psychologists in the United States have earned board certification. Dr. Skillings’ appointment begins immediately and ends Jan. 1, 2012. His main role as president will be to develop and implement a marketing and recruiting strategy, encouraging top-notch psychologists to become board certified. Additionally, he will further the organization’s mission of improving the quality of behavioral health care in medical settings. As director of behavioral medicine services at Pine Rest, Dr. Skillings works with hospital systems to integrate medical and behavioral health care services in West Michigan. He and his team are working with several physician groups to identify and treat patients who have difficulty coping with medical illness such as diabetes, heart disease and chronic pain.
