Valerie Stevenson

“I am an African American woman therapist with a background in business management and counseling, specializing in culturally competent therapy for individuals from diverse backgrounds. This includes populations of racial, ethnic and marginalized differences, the religious and non-religious, and victims of abuse (e.g. spiritual, relationship, substance). Growing up, I witnessed the power of compassion through my parents’ generosity, such as renting bikes to children for free and providing room and boarding to the unhoused.”

Valerie is dedicated to creating a safe space for open discussion with her clients as well as dismantling systemic barriers to mental healthcare access. During sessions, she uses a blend of therapeutic techniques.

Valerie holds a bachelor’s from Cornerstone University in Business Management and a master’s from Western Michigan University in Counseling Psychology, with a minor in Addiction Specialization. She is an outpatient therapist at Pine Rest Southwest Clinic and enjoys spending time with friends and grandchildren, and “glamping” in the outdoors.
