“Life is a bad news/good news situation. First, the bad news: we all suffer. Life can be difficult. Relationships can be painful. Circumstances can be unfair. Stress will be persistent, and suffering is inevitable. But here’s the good news: Life is also full of unlimited opportunities to experience love, beauty, joy, creativity and connection. While we often try to “white knuckle” through hard times, anxious for the tide to turn, true mental health and wellness involves learning to tolerate distress while also embracing moments of beauty and joy. It’s about being honest about the pain while also making space for all the good stuff. I really care about helping others find this balance. I use my skills and training to assist clients in navigating life’s challenges in order to discover their own path toward healing and peace. My work as a therapist is built on genuine care for others and driven by a commitment to provide a safe and nurturing space where others can explore their emotions, confront their struggles and build resilience. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth, and my purpose is to guide clients toward healthier ways of thinking, feeling and living.”

In therapy, Susan offers a warm and relational approach to make clients feel safe, seen and soothed. She works to co-create treatment goals that lead to change and relief.  Her therapeutic style is grounded in unconditional positive regard and a firm belief in the dignity and value of all people. With the heart of a teacher, Susan loves to learn and share new ways to cope, communicate, think, relate and heal. Because many of us feel an urgent need for quick results, Susan is also gently direct, helping clients assess their behaviors and reactions honestly and compassionately, fostering the skills necessary to create positive and lasting change.

Susan utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques to tailor treatment to the specific needs of each client. She is an experienced EMDR clinician, specializing in trauma-informed care, particularly for individuals dealing with PTSD, anxiety and mood disorders. In addition, she incorporates somatic interventions, mindfulness and meditation practice to help clients process and release trauma, reduce stress and cultivate a sense of peace and presence. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is often incorporated to assist clients in reframing negative thought patterns and building healthier coping mechanisms. Susan integrates dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) to support clients in managing emotions, improving relationships and addressing behavioral challenges. With these tools, Susan empowers clients to heal and grow in ways that feel real, personal and sustainable.

Clients working with Susan will gain valuable insights into their emotional and behavioral patterns, while also developing stronger strategies for managing stress, depression, anxiety and relationships. Many clients find themselves better equipped to handle life’s challenges with self-compassion and clarity. In addition, Susan helps clients heal and grow through practical techniques that foster emotional regulation and personal empowerment. Sessions may include reflective exercises, guided meditations and actionable strategies to apply in daily life, helping clients feel empowered both inside and outside of the therapy room. Together, you and Susan will set measurable goals and regularly evaluate progress to ensure therapy is moving in a productive and meaningful direction.

Susan is a licensed therapist with an extensive background in providing psychotherapy in private practice as well as non-profit organizations. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based techniques, and she takes great pride in creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, safety and compassion. As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, Susan is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Her work is rooted in both her professional expertise and her deep compassion for those who seek healing, growth and peace.
