“As an extreme extrovert, I am naturally drawn to people—their stories, their struggles and their triumphs. I see therapy as a process of untangling the complex threads of a person’s experiences, helping them make sense of their narrative, and weaving it into something stronger. Each person brings unique gifts into this world, and my role is to help them see the strength in their own story. Through therapy, we work together to embolden their sense of self, transforming knots of uncertainty into a tapestry of resilience and growth.”

Clients working with Stephen can expect a collaborative and validating experience, likely with a heavy dose of humor. He takes a compassionate and structured approach, ensuring that therapy is both supportive and goal-oriented. His sessions provide a non-judgmental space where individuals and couples can explore their emotions, enhance self-awareness, and work toward meaningful change.

Stephen specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Through DBT, he helps clients develop emotional regulation skills, distress tolerance and mindfulness techniques. With EFT, he guides couples in strengthening emotional bonds and improving relationship dynamics. His approach is tailored to each client’s unique needs, fostering resilience and personal growth.

Through therapy, clients can expect to gain valuable skills in emotional regulation, stress management and relationship-building. Sessions often incorporate reflective exercises, skill-building strategies and open dialogue to facilitate insight and progress. Stephen encourages clients to take an active role in their healing process, providing guidance and support every step of the way.

Stephen received his Bachelor’s in Psychology and Spanish at Aquinas College in 2012, and his Master’s in Social Work in 2014 from Michigan State University. He has a past history of working with refugee populations and providing in-home family therapy across Kent County. He has been at Pine Rest since 2016 and is part of the Dialectic Behavioral Therapy program at the Northwest Clinic, where he also serves as the clinic manager .
