Shelby Powers is a doctoral limited licensed psychologist. She is completing her doctorate in clinical psychology at George Fox University in Portland, Oregon.
Prior to beginning her predoctoral internship at Pine Rest, Shelby completed training in risk assessment through a multi-year placement at several rural Oregon hospitals, assessing for suicide, homicide, and psychosis-related risk. She also completed a certification program in Trauma Treatment in Clinical Practice, which is a nervous-system focused approach to trauma conceptualization and treatment.
Shelby utilizes an interpersonal, person-centered approach to therapy, knowing that the quality of the relationship between therapist and client is crucial for change to happen. In particular, she takes a trauma-focused approach to explore how early experiences shape our current functioning. Other areas of clinical interest include perinatal mental health concerns (everything from infertility to postpartum), developmental transitions, and values work.
