“Ever since high school, I’ve known that I wanted to be an occupational therapist. After job shadowing in an outpatient pediatric clinic, I realized helping children gain independence and confidence through play, movement and connection was exactly where I wanted to be. That passion has only grown stronger over the years, and I bring it into every session. Whether it’s supporting early development, navigating sensory challenges, or building feeding skills, I believe in meeting every child where they are—and making therapy both meaningful and fun.”

Shelby is known for her energy, creativity and ability to connect with children and families in a way that feels natural and supportive. Her sessions are built around trust, compassion, and progress. Parents can expect collaboration, honest communication and practical strategies they can carry into daily life. Shelby understands that every child’s journey is unique, and she tailors her approach to each individual’s strengths and needs.

Shelby draws from experience across a wide variety of settings, including pediatric home health, school-based therapy, outpatient pediatrics, and acute care. She has worked with individuals ranging from 4 months to 101 years old, addressing needs related to early intervention, physical and neurological disabilities, sensory processing, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), feeding, motor development, emotional regulation, and more.

Shelby earned her degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University. While at WMU, she studied abroad in Ireland and Jamaica, completed a clinical rotation in Texas, and participated in the Disney College Program—where she also met her husband. After graduation, she spent four years in Florida working as an OT before returning to Michigan to experience all four seasons again.

Shelby Chorny participates in the Diversity Collective.
