Dr. Shawna Tanner is a fully licensed clinical psychologist working with clients at both Pine Rest Campus Clinic and Pine Rest Psychological Consultation Center.

Shawna received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in biostatistics from Grand Valley State University. She continued her education and training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where she obtained a master’s degree and PhD in psychology. Shawna’s research focused on relationship processes (e.g., attachment, relational perceived social support, and parenting) that build resilience and provide protection, especially for at-risk youth and their families. Her broad training experiences across several settings in Detroit, Michigan and the greater Boston, Massachusetts area (e.g., community mental health centers, medicine clinics, schools) included an emphasis on providing high-quality comprehensive treatment to those with diverse individual, family, and cultural backgrounds.

Shawna is experienced in providing treatment to children, adolescents and adults for a wide range of difficulties and disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, learning difficulties, grief/loss, life transitions, adjustment to medical conditions, trauma, and autism spectrum disorder. Shawna uses an integrative, action-oriented therapeutic approach to best meet each client’s needs and often utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

At the Pine Rest Campus Clinic, Shawna currently provides treatment for those aged 11 and up.

At the Pine Rest Psychological Consultation Center, Shawna conducts psychological assessments for those aged 6-55 for a range of difficulties, including ADHD, learning disabilities, personality assessment, and diagnostic assessment.
