Shaunene H. Van Buren, PsyD
Shaunene has been a psychologist since 1986. During the source of her career, she has practiced in a variety of treatment settings, including psychiatric hospitals, day treatment, residential care, outpatient clinics, private practice and public schools. Providing psychotherapy to children/teens, as well as adult women, are her two main specialties.
She works with adult women on a variety of psychological issues, including sexual dysfunction. She is also passionate about early diagnosis and intervention for children, as a way of preventing more serious mental health issues in adulthood. Her work with young people includes parent consultation and parent involvement in all phases of treatment. She provides play therapy for younger children and relationship therapy for teens. In addition, she utilizes appropriate behavioral treatment methods for both age groups.
Another area of expertise for Shaunene is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a unique treatment method specifically designed for trauma survivors. She is a certified EMDR practitioner with many hours of experience treating both children and adults.
Shaunene grew up on a farm in central Ohio and completed her professional training in Los Angeles. She worked as a psychologist in California, Montana, and North Carolina before coming to the Christian Counseling Center in 1998. She and her husband have two adult children. Away from work, she enjoys cooking, walking, card-making and volunteering in the church nursery.
