“I became a therapist out of a sincere care for people who are hurting and a deep belief that people can find recovery and sustain long-term mental wellbeing. My passion lies in helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with compassion, courage and hope.”
Currently, Shannon serves in the Telehealth Clinic at Pine Rest, where she sees individuals seeking therapy to address mental health and substance use concerns. She also leads the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for individuals with dual disorders. She strives to create a safe, welcoming space where clients can open up, learn and move toward healing at their own pace. She specializes in treating people struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. She has a heart for working with adults who are going through change of life issues, trauma, chronic illness, relationship issues and/or are struggling with stress.
Shannon is a fully licensed Clinical Social Worker (LMSW) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) who has been with Pine Rest since 2002. Previously, she worked as an addiction’s specialist at Gateway in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Longford Care Unit in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and St. Jude’s Recovery Center in Atlanta, GA. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Michigan State University and completed her master’s in social work, along with a Graduate Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Abuse (SPADA), at Western Michigan University in 1998. She utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to therapy, which includes CBT, MI, Solution-Focused and Insight-oriented therapy techniques.
Shannon participates with Faith Community Outreach, an initiative within Pine Rest that seeks to connect area clergy, churches, and ministries to services available from Pine Rest; as well as develop new services specifically designed to benefit the faith community.
