Shanita employs a therapeutic approach that is client-centered and integrative, ensuring that each individual’s unique needs are met with compassion and understanding. Her methods are trauma-focused, providing a safe space for healing and recovery. Shanita’s playful and engaging style helps clients feel comfortable and supported, fostering an environment where they can explore their emotions and experiences openly. Through her compassionate care, Shanita is dedicated to helping clients navigate their journeys toward mental well-being.

Shanita utilizes a diverse range of therapeutic techniques to address the unique needs of her clients. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients manage their thoughts and emotions effectively. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) is employed to support those recovering from traumatic experiences. Shanita also integrates play therapy and sand tray therapy, creating a playful and expressive environment for children and adults alike. Motivational interviewing is used to empower clients to find their own motivation for change, while her person-centered approach ensures that each session is tailored to the individual’s specific needs and preferences. Through these varied methods, Shanita provides comprehensive and compassionate care to her clients.

Shanita specializes in working with children, families and young adults. She is part of specialty groups focused on Autism, DBT, Substance Use, Diversity, and Children and Adolescents. Shanita’s career began in direct care at a residential center for children with Autism. After earning her master’s degree in counseling, she worked in family preservation programs and home-based therapy for children with Severe Emotional Disturbances (SED) through Network180. She has experience in Neurodevelopmental trauma assessments and working with girls who have experienced sexual exploitation and trafficking. Before joining Pine Rest, Shanita supervised a team of clinicians providing home-based and outpatient services. She holds certifications in DBT, TFCBT, and substance use (CAADC). Shanita is also a Nurtured Heart Approach® trainer, Certified PEERS Social Skills group provider, and Certified Regulating Together group provider.
