Patrick Schaafsma, LMSW
Patrick Schaafsma is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2012 and his Master of Social Work degree in 2015 from Grand Valley State University. With roots in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patrick currently practices teletherapy and provides services to individuals from both Michigan and New York.
Patrick takes a person-centered, strengths-based approach using psychodynamic and humanistic psychotherapy. Having worked with young children, college students and adults in varying stages of life, he has had experience walking alongside and supporting clients through a wide range of challenges and experiences. He has expertise in treating depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and substance use. Understanding how the complex effects of trauma and difficult family history can affect long-term relationships and sense of self, Patrick helps clients navigate and gain deeper insight into their feelings while supporting them in their personal goals. He believes in the importance of providing clients a safe space to explore and understand topics that are important to them and he has helped clients with challenges related to their spiritual lives, life transitions, race and ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
