“I feel truly called to this work—it’s more than just a job to me. Being a therapist is part of how I live out my faith and serve others. I believe God invites us to be present with people in their pain, and it’s an honor to create a safe space where all people can be real, wrestle with hard things and begin to heal. Watching someone grow, find hope and experience healing is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.”

Michael’s clients often describe him as compassionate, insightful and deeply grounded in both his clinical expertise and faith. He creates a welcoming and respectful environment where individuals, couples and families feel safe to explore their challenges and grow. Whether navigating relationship struggles, parenting concerns or personal trauma, clients appreciate Michael’s ability to listen attentively and guide them with empathy and wisdom. His approach is collaborative and empowering, helping clients feel understood and supported throughout their healing journey.

Michael employs a range of evidence-based therapies tailored to each client’s unique needs. He is trained in Motivational Interviewing, which helps clients identify and strengthen their motivation for change, and in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful tool for resolving trauma and distressing life experiences. His clinical work addresses a wide spectrum of concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, anger, spiritual issues and life transitions. Through therapy, clients can expect to gain clarity, develop healthier coping strategies and experience meaningful personal and relational growth.

Michael holds a BA in Psychology from Calvin College and earned his Master of Social Work from Western Michigan University. He is a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Michigan and has been serving individuals and families since 1996. Currently, he is the Clinic Manager of the Pine Rest Southwest Clinic and a skilled presenter who leads workshops on mental health and wellness for both corporate and faith-based communities.

Michael participates with Faith Community Outreach, an initiative within Pine Rest that seeks to connect area clergy, churches, and ministries to services available from Pine Rest; as well as develop new services specifically designed to benefit the faith community.

Michael Reiffer participates in the Diversity Collective.
