“I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey—one where safety, compassion and respect are essential. I strive to create a space where individuals feel heard and supported as they explore challenges and grow into the best version of themselves. I am passionate about helping people uncover their strengths and build the skills they need to overcome the obstacles in their way.”

Mark’s approach to therapy is grounded in respect, empathy and curiosity. Clients can expect a safe and non-judgmental space where their values, beliefs and identities are honored. He treats others the way he would want to be treated—with honesty, kindness and genuine interest in their experiences. Mark emphasizes building trust and tailoring therapy to meet each person’s needs and goals.

Mark uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and integrates additional approaches depending on the individual. He has been certified in DBT since 2010 and provides both individual and group DBT therapy. Mark also completed training in gender-affirming care and is passionate about supporting individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, particularly those navigating gender dysphoria in rural settings. Clients working with Mark may address concerns such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and intellectual disabilities. His work focuses on building self-compassion, changing unhelpful thought patterns, and taking practical steps toward emotional balance and well-being.

Mark Kole is a Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP). He earned both his Bachelor of Science in psychology and Master of Arts in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University. He spent four years on an assertive community treatment (ACT) team in Lapeer, followed by 23 years at OnPoint in Allegan. He joined the Pine Rest Portage Clinic in 2023.

Mark Kole participates in the Diversity Collective.
