Kathy Carruthers, LMSW, LISW, CAADC, IAADC
Kathy is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and International Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (IAADC). She is attending Walden University for her Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) with a specialty in addiction. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Grand Valley State University.
Before coming to Pine Rest, Kathy worked at a community mental health organization and served patients with severe and chronic mental illness, co-occurring disorders, borderline personality disorder, mood disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Also, she worked as part of the deaf and hard of hearing program in Kent County, provided community-based substance-abuse services, and provided outpatient therapy services to children, families and individuals.
Kathy uses several different treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), and motivational interviewing. She is willing to weave spirituality into any of her treatment modalities, and she also specializes in serving the deaf and hard of hearing.
