Providing talk therapy and walking with individuals as they sort through their own lives is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, as I live into my own meaning and values while helping others sort through their own.”
Dr. Matlack takes a collaborative approach as he works alongside clients to help them achieve their goals. He is not afraid of offering guidance when appropriate, yet finds that most clients need little guidance once they understand their own values and meaning. Clients can expect a warm, non-judgmental space where they feel safe to explore their experiences, thoughts, emotions and values while working toward meaning-making.
Dr. Matlack primarily works through the lens of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), but he is comfortable integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Dr. Matlack earned an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy & Counseling and practiced for one year before deciding to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. He earned a PsyD in 2020. In 2019, Dr. Matlack joined the doctoral internship program at Pine Rest where he has worked since 2020 as a fully licensed doctoral level psychologist. He currently coordinates the LGBTQ+ outpatient services consultation group and works part-time at the Pine Rest Psychological Consultation Center performing diagnostic assessments while providing outpatient therapy services at the Southwest Clinic in Grandville, Michigan.
