Heather Kiel, LMSW, PMH-C
Heather is a fully licensed clinical social worker who began working as an outpatient therapist for Pine Rest in May 2015. She earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Hope College in May 2010 and her Masters in Social Work from Western Michigan University in April 2011.
Heather has a drive and passion for working with and advocating for women navigating their reproductive journeys. She regularly works with pregnant and postpartum women struggling with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, as well as women who may have experienced pregnancy loss and/or fertility related complications.
Heather has undergone extensive training in providing treatment for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD). She is endorsed and certified through Postpartum Support International (PMH-C). She co-founded and developed the Anchored in Hope Postpartum Therapy Group and regularly provides education about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, including facilitating the Reducing Your Risk for PMAD class at the Pine Rest Portage Clinic. She regularly provides community education and advocacy through speaking engagements and events in the greater Kalamazoo area. She currently serves as co-coordinator for the Pine Rest Outpatient Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders services and is an active member in the Kalamazoo PMAD Coalition.
Heather strives to provide a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere while working with women navigating their reproductive years. She regularly practices treatment techniques using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Holding Techniques (as founded by Karen Kleiman).
