Douglas is a licensed master social worker with 30 years of experience in the human services field. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Work from Hope College in 1983 and a master’s in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University in 1988.
Douglas professional experience includes providing individual, group, and family therapy to children, teenagers, and adults. He is a very versatile clinician and has worked in a variety of treatment settings including residential, outpatient, foster care, home-based, and hospital in-patient services.
Douglas’ areas of expertise include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), family and child issues (including adoption), depression, anxiety, anger management, grief and loss, PTSD, and other trauma-related issues.
Douglas has a passion to assist patients in developing a stronger Christian faith and approaches therapy from a solid biblical perspective. He participates with Faith Community Outreach, an initiative within Pine Rest that seeks to connect area clergy, churches, and ministries to services available from Pine Rest and to develop new services specifically designed to benefit communities of faith.
