Daniel Scott (He/Him/His), LMSW, is a Fully Licensed Social Worker who sees clients age 13-65 at the Pine Rest Northeast Clinic. He is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and play therapy. Daniel approaches his work from a deeply humanistic and systemic perspective, with a passion for co-constructing and holding equitable, individualized, and democratic therapeutic space. He also believes that all human beings swim in a social pond, and that experiences of injustice or intolerance are worthy of dedicated attention and care.
Daniel has worked in a wide range of social work practice settings since 2010. Clinically, he has worked extensively with complex trauma and grief, family therapy, criminal-carceral system involvement, and eating disorders. At a macro or “big picture” level of practice, Daniel has experience working in programming for GED completion and job training, runaway-homeless youth services, housing advocacy, higher education, and health policy research. Daniel received his Bachelor of Arts from Aquinas College in Psychology and Theology, his Master of Social Work from Michigan State University, and completed five years of PhD study at the University of Chicago.
Daniel lives in Grand Rapids with his wife and two dogs, Charlie and Trixie. A West Michigan native, Daniel grew up in the Kalamazoo area and lived in Grand Rapids for many years (though he spent five years living in Chicago.) Daniel and his wife Jessica love hiking, backpacking, bouldering and mountain biking together, and cultivating food self-sufficiency through gardening and ethical hunting practices. Daniel also enjoys playing classical and jazz piano, as well as clawhammer banjo.
