Christa Galer joined the Pine Rest Telehealth Clinic in January of 2025. She specializes in treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, grief and loss, and parenting issues. She has special interest in understanding interpersonal neurobiology and how our formative experiences influence our current life experiences. Her approach is not just clinical but deeply empathetic, rooted in a genuine desire to see her clients thrive.
Christa initially started her career working with children, adolescents and their families. She has experience in pregnancy counseling for individuals exploring adoption placement, she has worked with children in the foster care system and individuals who have been adopted, and she has provided support to adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma during their lifetime. Christa also has an understanding family dynamics of addiction and its impact on relationships and functioning.
In addition, Christa has completed a certificate program in Integrated Care (working in a primary care setting coordinating care and understanding behavioral changes needed to facilitate improvement with physical health conditions) and has received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing.
Christa graduated from Michigan State University in 1993 with a Master’s of Clinical Social Work. She also attended Hope College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Psychology and minors in Latin and Ancient Civilizations in 1991. Since 2006, Christa has specialized in the treatment of substance use disorders, earning her MCBAP credentials as a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS).
