“Helping others has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy helping people navigate difficult times in life and seeing them through as they work to process the past and explore current stressors.”

Cherina’s primary goal as a therapist is to establish an atmosphere that feels safe for clients to share their experiences. Together in treatment, Cherina will collaborate with her clients to deepen their understanding of how they came to be who they are, develop a range of emotional and cognitive skills to challenge beliefs and patterns that hold them back or no longer serve them, and empower them to recognize their strengths while feeling grounded in the present and hopeful about the future.

In therapy, Cherina provides clients with the opportunity to work toward understanding meaningful and distressing experiences by processing uncomfortable feelings and integrating them with strengths, goals and desires. Cherina always welcomes client feedback and will adjust her techniques to better suit their evolving needs.

Cherina believes coming to therapy takes courage, yet is rewarding. Therapy can help give new meaning to old stories. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions, psychodynamic therapy, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Solution Focused, and Motivational Interviewing. She also focuses on connections and relationships and how they impact and shape us.

Cherina is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has provided outpatient therapy services since 2009. She earned her Master of Rehabilitation Counseling degree from Langston University in 2007, and a BA in Sociology from California State University, Stanislaus in 2005. Prior to becoming a therapist, Cherina worked in adoption and child protective services.

Cherina Staples participates in the Diversity Collective.
