Andrae Agnew is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with the Pine Rest Campus Clinic. After working in the education field, Andrae found that his real passion is to assist individuals and families struggling with mental health and family issues. Andrae, who has been working at Pine Rest in myriad capacities since 2009, approaches each day with the goal of improving the lives of clients under his care. He is determined to help them overcome obstacles to live their best lives.

Andrae is a veteran social worker who understands that there is no singular method to treat individuals. His multi-level approach has led him to practice several different therapies, including Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, as well as psychoeducation. Andrae believes in treating clients with dignity, respect, sensitivity, and compassion. He realizes the trust and courage it takes for clients to believe in him and his efforts to lead them to seek a more fulfilling and happy life. With the knowledge that all clients have different needs, Andrae works hard to provide distinctive dialogue and treatment plans to meet a client’s specific needs. He also believes that the work doesn’t stop after the counseling sessions. Andrae is a firm believer in supporting patients and empowering them through their journey.

Andrae’s background includes working with adolescents and adults, which requires the use of various treatment modalities. He knows that his successful treatment programs can lead to stronger families, often with daunting and complex needs. He works with people struggling with mood disorders, psychosis, depression, and anxiety. He also has experience in helping clients with relationship issues, family conflicts, lack of motivation, self-esteem and confidence issues, as well as career difficulties.

Andrae, a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in secondary education from Mississippi State University. After moving to Michigan in 2008, he obtained a Master of Social Work degree from Western Michigan University.

As a counselor, Andrae lives by this quote: “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” – Booker T. Washington
