“I am devoted to helping people live their best lives, grow in their unique and spiritual presence in the world, and embrace the changes that come with aging. I enjoy working with individuals, groups, families, and couples in counseling. I want clients to feel at home and comfortable when they meet with me. I do this by creating an atmosphere matching what you need—be that a light-hearted atmosphere where I am willing to laugh with you, or a space for the expression of intense and sometimes difficult emotions.”
Dr. Alicia Fahr has taken her interest in the issues faced by individuals as they age, obtained specialized training, and developed it into a clinical specialty in gerontology. She finds it energizing to work with older adults and their families on issues related to aging and end-of-life. She is working to become a Certified Death Doula so she can assist individuals as they face death and help families cope after the loss of someone they care about (including beloved pets). Dr. Fahr is also studying for her Doctorate in Divinity and strives to integrate spirituality when it is helpful to patients. To best meet the needs of her clients, Dr. Fahr utilizes trauma-informed therapies including CBT, ACT, DBT, Art Therapy, Existentialism, and Transpersonal Psychology.
Dr. Fahr has been in clinical practice since 2004 after obtaining her doctorate from Western Michigan University. She has also worked in higher education for 24 years as a faculty member, and teaches Masters and Doctoral level counseling students how to become effective therapists.
