“My passion for helping others is motivated by curiosity and acceptance. Ever since I was a child, being in service to others has been an integral element of my exuberance. Both the warmth of a quality relationship and the admiration for one’s endeavors foster a helpful sense of delight. Becoming a therapist has been a dream that I am privileged to live every day. I am hopeful to explore the mind, grow together, and help you be the finest of your kind.”

Alex’s approach to therapy involves developing a strong bond and helping others move in the direction they want to be going in life. Clients can expect a safe space where they are free to express themselves without judgment. Sessions often involve conversations about what is and is not helpful, introspection of personal experiences, and considerations for how to manage oneself moving forward. Clients are encouraged to be the driver of the change they hope to see, which includes offering their perspective and feedback. Therapy with Alex is like climbing a mountain: each person has their own gear and will ascend the mountain while there is guidance and support along the way. Working together, individuals can hope to reach achievable goals that actually work for them.

Alex is familiar with several therapeutic approaches. He has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing. He has the most competence with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address traumatic experiences, which is his main specialty. These approaches can be helpful for identifying stressors, building insight, sitting with discomfort, and developing strategies to manage difficult thoughts, feelings, and body sensations.

Alex is a fully licensed Clinical Social Worker. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Biopsychology and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. After moving to Grand Rapids in 2020, Alex worked at Hope Network as a Case Manager. He then began working as an outpatient therapist at Pine Rest in 2022.

Alex Daoud participates in the Diversity Collective.
