“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” – Rumi
“As a counselor, I believe in showing up as a real person for you. Life doesn’t follow a script, and I don’t think therapy should either. My approach is rooted in honesty, compassion and helping people tap into their own strengths. I believe that healing often begins in the midst of one’s struggle—and that growth, while messy, is always possible.”
Whether in the form of laughter, tears or quiet breakthroughs, Abby sees each session as a space for real human connection and healing that is honest, empowering and lasting. Abby uses trauma-focused and solution-focused CBT and tailors her work to fit each person’s unique situation. Sessions might include gently reframing negative thought patterns, exploring stories of resilience, or identifying values that can guide new choices.
Since 2006, Abby has walked alongside children, teens and families through some of life’s most difficult seasons—whether in homes, schools or residential treatment settings. She’s worked with individuals facing anxiety, grief, trauma, PTSD, anger, social challenges, and complex family dynamics, providing both individual and group support across a range of developmental stages. Abby has received advanced training in working with veterans and individuals who have experienced trauma through military service, including those facing moral injury—the emotional and spiritual pain that can result from witnessing or being part of events that violate deeply held personal values. Abby approaches this work with utmost respect and care, offering a safe, nonjudgmental space for patients to process the weight of these experiences.
In addition, Abby has extensive experience supporting parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. She understands the emotional complexity, burnout and identity shifts that can come with caregiving roles, and helps clients navigate these realities with compassion, practical tools and a strong sense of validation.
Abby is a fully licensed clinical social worker who has been with Pine Rest since 2011. She earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Northern Michigan University and her Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the University of New England
