“I believe that you cannot hate yourself into someone you love. True growth comes from a place of compassion, patience and self-reflection—not from perfection. It’s a journey that includes setbacks, challenges and mistakes, each offering valuable lessons along the way. As a therapist, I am passionate about supporting individuals as they navigate these challenges, helping them cultivate resilience, self-awareness and self-compassion. My approach is rooted in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their emotions, confront their past and develop the tools they need to foster healthier relationships with themselves and others. My goal is to empower people to embrace their imperfections and trust in their ability to grow, one step at a time. I welcome all those who are interested in support; all those are welcome no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or faith background.”

Those who work with Abbie can expect a deeply supportive and non-judgmental space where they are met exactly where they are. With a warm, compassionate approach, Abbie fosters an environment of acceptance and understanding, knowing that each individual’s journey is unique and personal. Whether a client is facing challenges in their personal life, relationships or self-esteem, they will find someone who listens without judgment and offers guidance with empathy.

Abbie takes an integrative approach that consists of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and internal family systems (IFS) interventions. Paying attention to self-talk, developing healthy coping behaviors, acceptance of what we cannot change, and identifying parts of our whole are all tools that can be amended to meet the unique needs of every person.

Abbie has worked her way up from the Limited License Social Work program in Pine Rest to a fully licensed clinical therapist for the Holland Clinic. She graduated in 2022 from Grand Valley State University and has a Master’s in Social Work, Bachelor’s in Psychology and a minor in Sociology (2019).

Abbie Dykstra participates in the Diversity Collective.
