Senior Care Consultation provides on-site psychiatric consultation
to individuals in long term care settings, including skilled nursing
and assisted living
facilities. These individuals may be experiencing depression, anxiety,
difficulty dealing with a medical or medication change, or a significant
behavioral issue.
- Provided by a geriatric psychiatrist or a masters-prepared nurse practitioner who offers psychiatric evaluation and subsequent care in nursing home and assisted living facilities.
- Frequency of visits is usually
once or twice a month,
as need dictates.
- Specific services include:
- Psychiatric evaluation
- Medication recommendations and management
- Recommendations to order
relevant laboratory work
- Behavior management recommendations
- Facilitation of psychiatric admission
and provision of follow-up care
- Psychoeducation
- Psychotherapy
- On-call availability during working hours
- Most insurance accepted.
Eligibility requires that the client is referred by a physician,
resides in a long-term care facility that can facilitate on-site
consultation,
and has the
means to pay for services.
